Actual hangtag says: "Born in Magdeburg Germany in 1730, Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, served as an officer under King Frederick the Great. Meeting Benjamin Franklin in 1777, he volunteered his services to General George Washington in Valley Forge, Pa, where he taught a bunch of patriotic farm boys to defeat the British, allowing America to achieve independence. His drill book, Regulations for the Order and Discipline of the Troops of the United States, remains the basis of todays military training." Steuben retired to New York, where he died in 1794. Today, German Americans celebrate Steubens life and legacy with the Annual Steuben Parade held in New York City on third Saturday in September.
